What is Scamming?

ArcheAge is a very unique MMO, in that we openly encourage players to participate in piracy and open world PvP. The imaginations of players can take them anywhere in this sandbox world, from getting with pirate friends and stealing another player's trade goods, to sentencing someone to well-deserved jail time for their crimes. What does this mean for you? It means that ArcheAge can be a dangerous world, and it is important for players to protect themselves from ill-intentioned actions in game.
Scamming is what happens when another player takes advantage of your misplaced trust or ignorance of the game around you, and steals from you via legal in-game means. Ultimately, it is your responsibility to prepare and protect yourself from being taken advantage of by others, and you can do so by being informed and altogether untrusting of strangers.

Is scamming illegal?

No, scams that take advantage of a player's trust or ignorance do not violate any in-game mechanics, and are not actioned by the In-Game Support team. No matter how vile the scam may be, Customer Support is unable to compensate players for losses due to legal scams, nor will In-Game GMs be able to action the terrible practitioner of the act. We fully empower players in game to be judge and jury for others who break the in-game laws, and encourage you to pursue these options, however the support team cannot get involved.

How can I defend myself against scams?

In a world of pirates and vandals, how can you prevent scams and exploits from hurting your playing experience? The solution is to remain practical and refrain from placing your trust in players that you are not 100% familiar with. Use the following tips to help you avoid these traps in game.

Don't be too trusting.

Realize that the possibility of anyone betraying you is real. If you want to keep your items and gold, be careful about whom you trust.

Be mindful of Pirates!

Some players will want to sail the seas in search of players to persecute with deplorable behavior and downright skullduggery. Always be wary of these players, and understand that dealings with them can always go wrong.

Be careful who you invite to your guild.

A guild can be a great way to get together with players that you know and trust. However, if you don't fully screen players that you invite to your circle of trust, scams can happen. The bigger your guild gets, the higher chance you have of guild members becoming unhappy and scamming the guild.

Never reveal account or personal information!

We go through great efforts to make sure your account is as secure as possible from outside intrusions. What we cannot prevent is players legally obtaining your login information, or information that can allow them to scam your character. Make sure to avoid revealing any of this information to anyone, EVER. The Customer Support team will never ask for your personal password.

Do not purchase items or gold from a third party.

Buying gold or items in game for real world currency is not condoned by Customer Support. We will not provide any kind of restoration for any currency that may be scammed during these kinds of transactions. Third party websites can also obtain login information or scam your account based on information obtained during these kinds of transactions.

Always use in game systems to perform transactions.

The Auction House and Realtor systems are in the game for a reason; for your protection! Stay away from trades with players you don't know, or fishy back alley deals for land without the assistance of these in game systems.

Don't be too hasty!

When performing a deal with another player of any kind, take it slow. Make sure that money is exchanging hands properly, and you are not getting duped out of your items because you haven't checked what is being traded.

Be wary of deals that sound too good to be true.

The age old adage holds true for ArcheAge; if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Steer clear of players who are offering great deals on items or housing without the backing of in game systems to perform the transaction. These deals are meant to attract players to scams that will leave them with everything and you with nothing.

What is exploiting?

An exploit is when a player goes around designed system mechanics in a manner not intended by the game's designers. For example, if someone is utilizing a bug in game to take advantage of another player without that player having the means to defend themselves. This way of taking advantage of other players is in no way condoned, and can be subject to punishment from the Support team.

What do I do if I am a victim of an exploit?

If you feel as though you have been a victim of an exploit, please contact Customer Support right away so that we can thoroughly investigate. When reporting any exploits, please be sure to be as detailed as possible with your explanation, including players, locations, or any other pertinent information that would help us reproduce the issue. Remember, the more information you provide the better chance we have of reproducing and actioning for the reported exploit. Rest assured that we will do everything we can to reimburse players for anything lost due to exploitation, and the faster you report these issues the better chance we have to figure out what went wrong.
In addition to reporting an exploit, please do not take it upon yourself to use that exploit yourself to try and regain what you may have lost. Actions such as this can result in action being taken against your account as well, and any restoration of your losses impossible. Keep this in mind when locating exploits within the game.

Why Playing Video Games Can Actually Be Good for Your Health

Why Playing Video Games Can Actually Be Good For Your Health .

There ar one.23 billion individuals worldwide WHO pay AN hour each day, on average, taking part in video games. Jane McGonigal thinks this is often an excellent factor.
McGonigal may be a game designer and author, and he or she spoke at The island Project weekday morning concerning why she believes taking part in video games is sweet for individuals and for the planet. the primary speaker of the day, McGonigal took the stage on a warm, breezy morning in Nantucket in front of an audience still sipping their espressos and Nantucket Nectars from breakfast. (Tom Scott, the founder of Nantucket Nectars, started the annual speaker series on the island.)

McGonigal began her talk by acknowledging that there are some statistics about gaming that are, admittedly, discouraging: worldwide, we spend 1.75 billion minutes a day playing Candy Crush. Surely there must be something better to do with that time?

But throughout her talk, the designer explained to the audience how to rethink their perceptions of what gaming is. When people play games, she posits, they are “wholeheartedly engaged in creative challenges.”
Her point is borne out by science: gaming, McGonigal says, is the neurological opposite of depression.
When we play video games, we have a “real sense of optimism in our abilities and our opportunities to get better and succeed, and more physical and mental energy to engage with difficult problems," McGonigal explained, "and that is actually the physiological and psychological state of game play.”
According to McGonigal, when people play video games, brain scans show the most active parts of the brain are the rewards pathway system, which is associated with motivation and goal orientation, and the hippocampus, which is associated with learning and memory. These ar the 2 main elements of the brain that don’t activate once individuals ar plagued by depression.
So once McGonigal suffered a traumatic brain injury a number of years past, she created her own game to assist herself heal. referred to as Jane the Concussion mortal, McGonigal came up with a secret identity for herself, wanted out allies to assist her regain and gave herself “power-ups” once she reached new benchmarks within the healing method. She’s turned this into a program referred to as "SuperBetter" to assist others work depression, anxiety, brain injuries and chronic sicknesses. and he or she says activating this "gameful mindset" helps individuals heal higher, and faster.

This is why McGonigal prefers a unique term for those who love video games, besides the term ‘gamers’: “I prefer to consider those who pay plenty of your time taking part in games not even as gamers, however as super-empowered hopeful people,” she said.
